Andy Hong, Director of the Healthy Aging and Resilient Places (HARP) Lab, recently visited Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea, to participate in an international joint academic seminar hosted by the Smart Urban Design Lab (SUDL).

Organized by Professor Jeongwoo Lee of Chung-Ang University, the seminar brought together faculty members, researchers, and students to discuss emerging research on AI and data-driven healthy cities, climate-sensitive urban design, and urban environmental modeling.

The visit also included a presentation by the HARP Lab team. Dr. Hong and HARP Lab member and PhD student Hongseok Choi presented their ongoing research on using artificial intelligence to integrate big and thick data in healthy city research. Their work examines how advanced computational approaches can be combined with contextual and human-centered data to better understand the relationships between urban environments, health, and well-being.

Other seminar presentations addressed topics including data-driven urban design, microclimate prediction, climate-sensitive urban geometry, activity-friendly greenways, generative AI, street vitality, and neighborhood environmental modeling.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for international academic exchange and future collaboration among researchers working at the intersection of urban design, technology, climate, and public health.
